    **Responsibilities**

    Physician assistants and nurse practitioners (NP PAs) in the division of Hospital Internal Medicine (HIM) work collaboratively with physicians and other NP PAs to provide high quality hospital-based care. The HIM team is responsible for caring for a variety of clinically diverse and complex patients in a high acuity, dynamic and collaborative hospital setting. Our patient population consists of all areas of internal medicine with a focus in Hematology/Oncology and Transplant Medicine. The HIM NP PA will partner with HIM physicians to assess, diagnose and treat patients and are responsible for patients in the Medical/Surgical and Progressive Care Units (PCU). The HIM NP PA completes admissions, daily hospital visits, discharges, and consultations. The HIM NP PA will work 12-hour shifts, including daytime shifts, swing shifts, weekends, and holidays.

    **The Acute Care advanced practice provider in this position will work on our inpatient general cardiology and post-procedure teams. Common diagnoses encountered on our general cardiology service include acute coronary syndrome, heart failure, arrhythmia, and pericarditis. Our post procedure service takes care of patients after interventional and electrophysiology procedures.**

    The role entails 12 hour shifts and does occasionally include nights, holidays, and weekend coverage. At this time, this is usually 1-2 weekends per month, 1-2 major holiday per year, and up to 3 night shifts per month. As this is a teaching hospital, you will work alongside an attending physician, cardiology fellows, and internal medicine residents on the services, as well as occasional medical school and advanced practice provider students.

    In addition to meeting the above requirements, the NP or PA must meet two to four of the following:

    + Spend at least 50% of days based at the hospital (rounds, service, or shift work).

    + Perform specialized procedure(s).

    + Provides evals and consults with indirect supervision at least 50% of days worked.

    + Take call assignments (Primary and/or ED).

    + Provide Weekend/Holiday Service.

The provision of care includes, but is not limited to obtaining patient history, comprehensive assessment, ordering, conducting, and interpreting diagnostic tests, and prescribing pharmacological agents and treatments and non-pharmacological therapies. Monitors the effectiveness of the therapeutic interventions. Makes appropriate referrals. Performs minor procedures as approved by the AZ Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants. This individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span. The ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient's age-specific needs is required.

    The Physician Assistant and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner will be involved in patient and family education of disease management and treatments and may also be involved in research or educational activities within their department. Physician Assistants and Acute Care Nurse Practitioners are expected to serve as mentors, and to participate in clinical improvement and research projects as appropriate to the clinical setting. Other specialty specific job responsibilities required as needed. The Physician Assistant and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner demonstrates leadership through involvement on committees and team projects, education, and research and actively seeks to improve the practice through performance improvement initiatives. Remains active in professional organizations and participates in community activities. Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs. Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.

    **Patient population: Pre and Post Liver transplant patients, and other acute hepatologic conditions.**

    **Qualifications**

    **Acute Care Nurse Practitioner:** Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current AZ RN and APRN license and certification as a ACNP or AGACNP

    **Physician Assistant:** Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the AZ State Board of Medical Practice.

    **Additional Qualifications:**

    Active BLS and ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross at start date and DEA registration required

    + Transplant or Internal Medicine experience preferred
