Secondary Firefighter Retirement Coverage - Applicants for this secondary administrative fire fighter position under the provisions of 5 U.S.C. 8336 (c) (CSRS) and 5 U.S.C. 8412 (d), must possess knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of wildland firefighting as demonstrated by direct wildland firefighting experience.     **PRIMARY PURPOSE** **:** **To investigate fire events to determine origin, cause, and responsibility in accordance with assignments from clients or assigned legal counsel.**

Responsibilities Serves as a Helicopter Senior Firefighter to provide leadership and oversight of wildland fire suppression / management / control work on a helitack module. Performs and/or oversees initial attack fire suppression activities, locates fireline, directs and participates in fireline construction, backfiring and burnout operations. Directs helicopter crewmember duties i.e., prepares internal/external cargo loads, briefs passengers, follows procedures for loading/unloading the helicopter, constructs helispots or landing areas, monitors dipsites, and prepares sling load sites. Leads aviation mission planning in coordination with pilot to include evaluation of environmental conditions, application of aviation safety plans, and briefing mission objectives. Participates in and may direct helicopter operations to include accompanying pilot on flights, providing radio communications to dispatch and/or ground firefighters, navigating with use of maps and applying aviation safety regulations. Inventories and inspects helicopter accessories, fire tools, and equipment including aerial ignition devices; and directs the readiness and assembly of helicopter support accessories and helicopter safety equipment. Gathers and considers information on weather data, topography, fuel types, and fire behavior in responding to wildland fire incidents. Performs administrative responsibilities to include training firefighters; ensuring that work is carried out safely; and timekeeping, travel administration, government credit card management and maintains records. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Wildland Firefighter, GS-0456. GS-7: 1 year of specialized wildland fire management work experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include but are not limited to work as a lead wildland firefighter directing others in the use of a variety of specialized wildland fire tools and equipment; directing and performing prescribed burning; leading the operation of a wildland fire engine or suppression efforts of a helicopter module. Independently performing technical methods and procedures associated with wildfire suppression to resolve a full range of irregular or problem situations when suppressing wildland fires. Communicating critical information pertaining to incident objectives, situations and tactics. Served and led on a hand crew assigned to lead fire suppression under the most adverse conditions of climate, fuels, and terrain. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This is a MANDATORY qualification prerequisites to qualify for this position.     Primary Function:
    The primary function of the Recruit Firefighter is to learn and apply general duty firefighter work in a non-emergency academic setting and obtain Fire I and Fire II certifications and National Registry Certification and/or Arizona State EMCT-EMT. The Recruit Firefighter is enrolled in the Golder Ranch Fire District (GRFD) Fire Academy for training and is subject to the GRFD Recruit Training Academy Manual (RTAM), as well as all GRFD Policies and Procedures. During the GRFD Fire Academy, the Recruit Firefighter must demonstrate competency in the principal duties and responsibilities, as defined in the job description.

Only candidates who successfully complete this module, regardless of current EMCT-EMT or EMCT-Paramedic certification, will continue their participation in the GRFD Firefighter Academy.

    Upon the successful completion of the Firefighter Academy, candidate status will change from Recruit Firefighter (40-hour/work week schedule) to Probationary Firefighter (56-hour/work week schedule) and will be paid based upon certification held.
