Assist skilled craftsperson(s) by performing supportive duties as directed and will work under immediate supervision. The level and degree of job responsibilities and requirements vary depending on months of experience and assigned job step.

• Learn to use hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, assemble and align machinery and install all other items
• Assist with reviewing and verifying inventory of equipment/machine components; checking accuracy of line and grade of existing foundation; prepare foundation for grouting and/or machinery placement; establishing and use centerlines and bench marks; establishing proper elevation of subsole and sole plates; set and aligning machine components; mix and place all types of grout;
• Assist skilled craftsman when they torque equipment and machinery; properly rig equipment and machinery and direct crane operators on placement of same. Test all installed machinery and equipment and make all necessary adjustments and/or repairs, if any.
• Assist with dismantling machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars and other hand tools; moving machinery and equipment using hoist, dollies, rollers and trucks;
• Assist with the assembly and installation of equipment; aligning machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, micrometers and plumb bobs; assembling machines and attaching them to foundations or other structures according to project specifications.

About the Position
The Centralized Mechanical Heavy Overhaul Teams function to provide Central Arizona Project (CAP) with internal expertise to maintain our large and geographically dispersed industrial mechanical systems. CAP is seeking a highly-skilled, highly-motivated industrial mechanic to provide journeyman-level technical expertise in the performance and support of this vital function.
As a Heavy Overhaul Mechanic (https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/capaz/classspecs/1163813?keywords=millwright%20mechanic&pagetype=classSpecifications) , you would perform mechanical duties associated with the preventive maintenance, repair and overhaul of heavy industrial mechanical equipment utilized in pumping plants, generating stations, check structures, turnouts and other Central Arizona Project facilities. Your performance of these functions helps to ensure that equipment is safe, mechanically sound, and operating efficiently, in order to provide reliable water deliveries. Frequent in-state travel Mondays – Thursdays is part of the job.

About the Qualifications
A driver's license with a good driving record, a high school diploma or GED, as well as three or more years of related journeyman-level experience are essential. Having completed a related state-approved apprenticeship is preferred. If you possess a strong working knowledge of hydro-electric generating and pumping systems, hydraulic systems and controls and the ability to troubleshoot; are highly proficient in the safe use of proper tools and equipment for precision measuring and testing, fabricating, welding, calibrating, machinery alignment and leveling, reconditioning, maintaining, and repairing in an industrial mechanical environment; and are well versed about industrial safety requirements including hazardous energy control protocols; then we highly encourage you to apply for this position.
