The operator is central to the amazing work Caterpillar machines perform daily to build a better world. We have an exciting opportunity for a **Controls System Engineering Specialist** to join our team and support **Cab Climate** system engineering! The successful candidate will work in the Cab Systems division, responsible for software controlling HVAC systems that enhance the operator safety, experience, and productivity for all Caterpillar machines.

As the successful candidate, you will provide technical leadership in the design, development, and enhancement of cab climate systems and mechatronic devices to optimize products and systems. You will participate in the requirements gathering, software authoring, validation activities and maintenance of the HVAC software control library.

The candidate is expected to provide technical leadership for cab climate embedded software controls, working with customers and process partners, such as Cab Climate engineering teammates, Machine Business Divisions, cab system teams, Global Purchasing, etc. The incumbent will be responsible for leading multiple projects independently & simultaneously, meeting all quality, cost, and timing deliverables.

Once hired, you must demonstrate strong customer focus, teamwork, global collaboration, and communication capabilities. This position will also require the application of new technologies and products such as electrically powered refrigerant compressors and heaters.

**What You Will Do:**

+ Provide technical leadership in defining requirements and designing advanced cab climate control systems and integrating electrical and mechanical systems for enterprise-wide usage

+ Collaborate with hardware engineers to author, validate, and release software.

+ Troubleshoot issues and validate solutions with lab testing, operator evaluations, and customer feedback for cab climate electro-mechanical systems.

+ Provide technical direction in identifying and addressing areas of weakness in finished products. Analyzes code, logs, and current systems as part of advanced troubleshooting.

+ Own and maintain HVAC lab space in a safe and orderly manner, and maintain device calibrations per schedule

+ Work closely with a distributed, multidisciplinary team, effectively communicating ideas and development results.

+ Participate in research programs throughout their lifecycle, from launch to production.

**What You Have (Basic Qualifications):**

+ **Degree Requirement:** Bachelor’s degree from an accredited engineering curriculum (electrical engineering degree is preferred)

+ **Technology Advising:** Experience in technology advising with strong focus on embedded system.

+ **Embedded Systems:** Proficiency in machine software controls development tools, including CANape, CANalyzer, MatLab/Simulink, and Git

+ **Embedded Systems:** Knowledge of datalink protocols such as CAN, J1939, and Ethernet.

+ **Product Experience:** Experience working with embedded systems on earthmoving, mining, or similar equipment.

**Top Candidates Will Have:**

+ Focus on controls systems or mechatronics as part of undergraduate/graduate curriculum.

+ Experience working with HVAC system controls or hardware.

+ Experience developing and testing systems on earthmoving equipment.

+ Knowledge and/or experience with software design, kinematic design, control/robotics logic, electrical, electronics, hydraulic, software coding, embedded computer system, control theory and data communication.

+ Experience with Python and data analytics.

+ <10% travel expected (international & domestic)
