**Responsibilities**
Consistent with Mercy Medical Center (MMC) policy and procedure renders basic nursing care to assigned patient populations under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Collects data that allows the Registered Nurse to assess patients for nursing needs and establish and implement a problem oriented plan of nursing care. Implements the plan of nursing care performs basic nursing procedures and provides direct nursing care. Patient age populations served and the specific competencies that comprise this job title may vary among nursing units. These specifics are found in the "Department/Unit Orientation & Initial Assessment of Competency" checklists for this unit/position and by reference form a part of this job description. If employee is required to float to another department he/she will not be asked to perform task(s) not qualified to perform.
Responsabilities include:
Planning - as directed/delegated by the RN Performs care at required intervals in an age appropriate (infant, toddler, preschooler, school age, adolescent, early adult, middle adult and geriatric) manner. Completes and documents care provided in a timely manner. Provides and practices infection control standards for self and patient Organizes and prioritizes tasks as assigned to expedite patient care. Applies knowledge of hospital and unit-based policies and procedures to provide safe and competent care. As directed by the RN renders basic developmentally age appropriate (infant, toddler, preschooler, school age, adolescent, early adult, middle adult and geriatric) care to the patient. Provides ongoing communication to the nurse regarding obstacles to delivering timely care or the completion of tasks.
Standards:
1. There are no occurrences of valid serious patient complaints or incident reports of failure to assist in the care of the patient.
2. Ensures accurate and complete documentation of patient records 95% of the time based on the random chart review.
3. Developmental age competency is assessed by one or more of the following methods: direct observation, listening and auditing of documentation.
4. There are no occurrences of valid serious complaints of failure to communicate to the nurse any observed changes in the patients condition or the inability to perform an assigned task timely.
**Qualifications**
**Minimum:**
+ Must possess and maintain a current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) issued by the State of California.
+ Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
+ Must be able to take call float to other areas and work on weekends
**Education:**
+ Nurse Assistant Certification OR completion of a nursing fundamentals class and are currently enrolled in a nursing school OR a graduate from a nursing program.
**Preferred:**
+ Minimum of six months experience in acute care or skilled facility.
**Pay Range**
$23.00 - $24.88 /hour
