**Responsibilities**

The incumbent is responsible for transporting patients between departments within the hospital; assisting with moving and lifting patients on the care units; transporting specimens and equipment such as wheelchairs and gurneys between departments. Answer phones and direct calls as needed and perform other duties as assigned. Demonstrates competency in patient care for the pediatric adolescent adult and geriatric patient. May access medication storage areas in accordance with their job function and hospital policy.

**Qualifications**

**Minimum Qualifications:**

+ Six (6) months of related experience in healthcare required

+ Requires knowledge of:

+ Proper body mechanics and patient safety

+ The organization of an acute care hospital and related facilities

+ Medical terminology

+ Requires ability to:

+ Lift patients onto gurney and to assist them into and out of a wheelchair

+ Read and comprehend instructions written in English

+ Use courtesy and tact when dealing with patients visitors and hospital staff

+ Calm and reassure distressed patients

+ Maintain patient confidentiality

+ Follow established protocols

+ Work effectively under multiple priorities and adjust priorities as circumstances require

+ Maintain a high degree of accuracy regarding all details

+ Establish and maintain a satisfactory cooperative working relationship with coworkers and supervisors in the department hospital and service area

+ Current BLS certification required (must be certified through the American Heart Association)

**Pay Range**

$28.28 - $31.77 /hour
