The Principal Data Scientist uses mathematics, statistics, modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform high volumes of complex data into advanced analytic solutions. The Principal Data Scientist provides strategic advice and guidance to functional team(s). Highly skilled with broad, advanced technical experience.

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Data Scientist specializing in generative AI to join our team and lead innovative projects aimed at enhancing our Medicare Advantage membership projections and bid processes. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in applying advanced machine learning techniques, particularly Large Language Models (LLMs), to synthesize and analyze complex datasets for predictive modeling. This role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop robust algorithms that drive strategic decision-making and improve operational efficiencies. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of delivering actionable insights from data and a strong ability to communicate findings effectively to stakeholders.

**Required Qualifications**

+ **Educational Background** : Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.

+ **Experience** : Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in data science. 5+ years specifically focused on AI and NLP applications.

+ **Technical Skills** : Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, with extensive experience in NLP libraries (e.g., NLTK, spaCy, Hugging Face Transformers) and frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch for model development.

+ **Analytical Expertise** : Demonstrated ability to process and analyze large textual datasets, extracting meaningful insights, building predictive models, using generative AI techniques.

+ **Communication Skills** : Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear and concise manner to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.

+ **Problem-Solving Skills** : Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, with a track record of delivering data-driven solutions in a fast-paced environment.

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ **Industry Knowledge** : Familiarity with the healthcare sector, specifically Medicare Advantage, and an understanding of regulatory frameworks and market dynamics.

+ **Advanced Technical Skills** : Experience with cloud-based AI solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure) and familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI for presenting findings.

+ **Leadership Experience** : Proven experience in a leadership capacity, mentoring junior data scientists and managing cross-functional projects that leverage generative AI and NLP.

+ **Research Contributions** : Publications in reputable journals or conferences related to AI, NLP, or machine learning, demonstrating thought leadership in the field.

+ **Certifications** : Relevant certifications in machine learning or NLP, such as those offered by recognized institutions or organizations (e.g., TensorFlow Developer Certificate, NLP Specialization by deeplearning.ai).

**Work-At-Home Information**

To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria:

+ At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested.

+ Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership.

+ Employees who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.

+ Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job.

+ Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.

Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

**Pay Range**

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$156,600 - $215,400 per year

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
