Pediatric Clinical Microbiologist

Phoenix Children’s is recruiting a Clinical Microbiologist to serve as the section director of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Testing and to join the professional staff of the Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The desired candidate will be an accomplished academic clinical microbiologist with excellence in administrative leadership skills, scientific knowledge, teaching ability, and a record of scholarship.

The Clinical Microbiologist must be an MD and/or PhD, and BE/BC in Medical Microbiology. The position entails scientific direction of the section of Microbiology, including Virology and Molecular Microbiology testing. The individual will report to the Laboratory Medical Director and Division Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The Clinical Microbiologist will serve as a consultant to our pediatric infectious diseases team and other medical providers and will be an active participant in our Infection Prevention and Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship programs. The chosen candidate will participate in innovative diagnostic test development with an emphasis on the specialized testing needs of our expanding hospital services, as well as our rapidly expanding network of care and clients. Professionalism, leadership, and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Experience in the pediatric testing environment is preferred, but not required. Active involvement in resident, fellow and medical student teaching through affiliated programs is expected, and academic appointment at University of Arizona College of Medicine and Mayo Clinic Arizona are encouraged.

A candidate who is also BC/BE in Pediatric Infectious Diseases, will also be joining a growing division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. The Division consists of physicians and advanced practice providers. The candidate will have the opportunity to provide clinical care through an inpatient and outpatient infectious Diseases Consult service.
